Evaluation of crude oil and vegetable oil sorption by polyrethane composities with different concentrations of Imperata Brasiliensis fiber

    Abstract:

This study proposes the development of sustainable polyurethane (PU) composites based on castor oil, reinforced with Brazilian satintail fibers (Imperata brasiliensis), aiming at their application as sorbent materials for the removal of oils in contaminated environments. Formulations with different fiber contents were prepared to investigate the impact on the sorption capacity of vegetable oil and crude oil. The research includes morphological and chemical characterization, evaluating the efficiency of the composites in the environmental remediation of oily residues of domestic and industrial relevance. The results showed that the incorporation of Imperata brasiliensis fiber significantly improved the sorption capacity of vegetable oil and crude oil in polyurethane composites, with the most efficient being the foam containing 20 wt% fiber.
